Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police on Friday arrested two brothers on the charge of selling land of another person taking advantage of similar name with the original landowner.

Suresh Patnaik and his brother Arun Patnaik, who belonged to Aska in Ganjam district, were absconding after the state government had lodged a complaint against the duo.

Suresh Patnaik of Aska in connivence of his brother Arun Patnaik had sold a house-hold land in Chandrasekharpur area here by forging his signature of his namesake after converting the lease-hold land to free-hold.

After coming to know about the forgery, the original landowner moved the general administration department of the government which had allotted the plot. On verification, it was established that the original landowner had been duped by his namesake.

A complaint was filed in the Capital police station here and the case was handed over to the crime branch, Inspector General of Crime Branch Abhay said. The duo was arrested here on Friday and forwarded to the court after their bail application was cancelled by the court.
