A youth was allegedly stabbed to death following a quarrel over boozing at Raghunath Nagar under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar late on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sanatan Routray, who owned a mobile shop at Dumduma market.

Police have detained four persons including two women in connection with the alleged murder. All of them are reported to be members from one family. Some other accused involved in the case are on the run and efforts are on to nab them, police said.

According to sources, some youths entered into a fight with Sanatan over boozing on Sunday night. After the altercation, the accused called some of his acquaintances and later they jointly attacked Sanatan with sharp edged-weapon which reportedly led to his death.

Police sources said the detained persons were involved in illegal liquor trade. The absconders are also facing multiple charges of crime.

The body of the deceased youth has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem. Khandagiri police visited the crime spot today morning and launched a thorough investigation into the case.

“My son was returning after having feast at his friend’s house when he had an altercation. The youth threatened my son and ran towards his home in a rage. He called out his family members and brought a knife with him. While two women held my son, the youth repeatedly stabbed my son,” alleged the deceased’s father.

“They have been selling liquor illegally for a long time. The police are not taking any action after receiving kickbacks,” alleged a local youth.
