In yet another example of the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, unidentified miscreants allegedly kidnapped a girl student from Mahulia Chhak under Chandbali police limits in Bhadrak district while she was returning home after attending tuition classes.

Sources said the assailants abducted the girl, identified as Madhusmita Panda, daughter of Gaurahari Panda of Ugratara village on August 19 when she was returning home after attending tuition classes.

The miscreants who came in a white car and kidnapped Madhusmita from near a cement shop located at Mahulia Chhak, sources added.

Though a complaint in this regard has been lodged with the Chandbali police, the cops are still clueless about the whereabouts of the girl, alleged family members of the victim.

“Even after 10 days of the abduction of my child, the police are yet to trace her or make any headway in the case. They are just making false promises,” alleged Manjulata Panda, mother of the victim.

She said, “I received a call from my daughter on Thursday. She was crying over phone and said the kidnappers were torturing her.”

Meanwhile, Satyabrata Parida, a local who witnessed the kidnapping incident, said "A car came from Bhadrak side and a man came out of the vehicle as soon as the vehicle stopped. He forcibly dragged the girl inside the car and fled.”

However, the IIC of Chandbali police station, Karunakar Rout claimed that he had spoken to the girl over telephone and she assured of returning soon. “I spoke to the girl and she assured me to arrive at the police station in two-three hours,” he said. Nevertheless, Rout’s claim has made the kidnapping case murky.

He went on to add that the police have recovered the CCTV footage of the incident and launched a hunt for the kidnappers.
“A case has been register after the parents of the girl student lodged a missing complaint. Our investigation into the matter is on,” he added.
