In a scene straight out of a Bollywood movie, three robbers first took a house on rent and subsequently looted the house owner. The bizarre incident has been reported from Odisha’s Chandbali area in Bhadrak district.

According to sources, three looters posing as security guards had taken the house of Jaydev Rout on rent. They said that they needed a room to rest during the day as they worked as security guards at night.

Believing them, Jaydev and his wife Sajani rented their house to the three robbers. In just two days, the robbers conducted the ‘recce’ of the house and hatched a plan to loot Jaydev. As per plan, they knocked Jaydev’s house at night at around 12 am.

Believing their new tenants needed some help, Jaydev opened the door only to be held at knife-point by the three accused. They threatened to kill his wife and directed them to hand over all their gold ornaments and cash in the house.

Fearing for his life, Jaydev gave away two gold rings, bangles, a necklace, three pairs of earrings, and gold mangalasutra of his wife. The robbers did not even spare their mobile phones and ATM cards.

“They knocked my house door and called me at night. As I have given my house on rent, I thought they needed some help, so I opened the door. As soon as I opened the door, they held me at knife-point and committed the loot. They threatened to kill my wife. They took away my ring worth Rs 2 lakh, a necklace, earrings and chain. They did not even leave my wife’s mangalasutra and our ATM cards, and phones,” alleged the house owner Jaydev Raut.

“They knocked on the door. When we opened, all of them suddenly entered with swords and knives. They held us both at knife-point and threatened to kill us if we did not hand over our gold ornaments. Out of fear, I handed over my chain, mangalasutra, 3 pairs of earrings, bangles, two gold rings, and many other valuables. They had told us that they wanted the room to sleep during the day as they worked as security guards at night,” alleged Jaydev’s wife Sajani Raut.
