The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday cracked the whip on corrupt government officials in different parts of the State. As per reports, the anti-corruption agency trapped two officials while they were accepting bribe.
The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Nuagada Block in Gajapati district, Braja Kumar Nayak, was caught red handed by the Vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant who is a teacher.
Nayak had allegedly made the demand and accepted the bribe money through one Dillip Kumar Swain, an Accountant Cum Data Entry Operator, to release the complainant teacher’s arrear salary. The total bribe money has been recovered from both the accused.
The Berhampur Vigilance registered a case under Section 7 PC (Amendment) Act 2018 and further investigation against Nayak and Swain is underway.
In the second incident, Vigilance sleuths trapped Kasinath Das, who is posted as clerk at the Record Section of the Cuttack Collectorate, while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000.
It is alleged that Das had demanded the money from the complainant for providing him land records as per his application.
Earlier in the day, the Vigilance officials conducted simultaneous raids at the houses and properties associated with Additional District Magistrate of Sundargarh Biswajit Mohapatra , over the allegation of possession of disproportionate assets. The anti-corrupting agency had detected assets worth crores including 10 plots of Mohapatra located at Khordha and Jagatsinghpur districts.
