Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly crushed her wife with a stone to death before taking his own life at Bedhachhelu village under Purushottampur police limits here in Ganjam district on Wednesday night.

Though the exact reason of the unfortunate incident has not immediately been known, family dispute is stated to be  the reason of crime.

According to reports, Prasant Muduli of the village always indulged in fight with his wife Jhili in inebriated state as Jhili had been opposing his alcoholic habit.

Many times, Jhili was also subjected to physical and mental torture in the family.

Last night, Prashant returned home in an inebriated condition which escalated feud with his wife. The verbal exchange later turned ugly when Prasant went berserk and reportedly crushed Jhili’s head with a grinding stone leaving her dead on the spot.

Later, he allegedly hung himself with the help of a chain inside the house.

The duo is survived by an 18-year-old son and daughter (13). The incident took place in the absence of other family members, reports said.

Neighbours and his relatives came to know about the happening in the morning after the son and daughter of the deceased found the body of their mother lying in a pool of blood and father hanging from the ceiling of the roof inside the room.

Meanwhile police reached the spot and seized the bodies for post-mortem. A case has been registered and investigation also launched accordingly. A scientific team will also be engaged in the investigation to ascertain the exact reason of the incident, police said.
