Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday saw 42 deaths due to Covid-19, the State's highest single-day fatalities in the pandemic taking the death toll to 2873.

Of the new deaths, Sundargarh has witnessed 5 fatalities followed by Cuttack and Kalahandi with 4 deaths. Similarly, Boudh, Jharsuguda and Khordha have reported 3 fatalities each.

The State also added 8839 more cases of Covid-19 to its tally which takes its cumulative infection figures to 790970. In the last 24 hours, as many as 4948 cases have been reported from quarantine centres while the rest 3891 are local contact infections. 

Khordha once again topped the list among all the districts in terms of daily cases. In the past one day, the district has seen 1235 more cases followed by Cuttack with 769 new positives. Mayurbhanj has reported 583 new cases followed by Dhenkanal with 510 cases, Jajpur 493 cases and Puri 438 positives during the period. 

With 10594 recoveries in a single day, the total recovered cases have risen to 702621. The active cases meanwhile have dipped to 85423 after some days of more recoveries in comparison to new positives.
