Baripada: The Town Police here claimed to have busted a fake foreign liquor bottling plant and detained two persons following a raid on the illegal industrial unit at Khunta area in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday night.

Acting on inputs from reliable sources, a team of officials from Khunta police station conducted raid at a building from where the illegal business was being operated.
 
The raid was carried out while the bottling works were going on, police said.

Hundreds of bottles, packed liquors, essence, fake stickers of reputed brands, spirit, empty bottles along with a packing machine used in the bottling were seized.

Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kedarnath Sahoo informed, "Huge quantities of materials used in the spurious liquor manufacturing have been seized. These include acid, palcohol, spirit, stickers and other materials. We have detained two persons in this connection for questioning. A case has also been registered and investigation is on to find out involvement of others in the illegal business.”

A scientific team from Bripada has also been pressed into action to expedite the investigation.

The illegal unit was running in the name of a scrap godown, the SDPO added.

The spurious liquor packets were being supplied to various areas in the district especially in rural pockets.

Investigation is on to elicit more details regarding involvement of others in the business.
