The body of a girl was found under mysterious circumstances at a farmhouse near Nandankanan zoological park on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Rosy (name changed). Rosy lived with her parents in Bhubaneswar and her father is a professor at an institute in Nayagarh district.

She had recent appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), reports stated. As per reports, the farmhouse is located around 500 to 600 meters from the house where the deceased lived with her family.

CCTV footage gathered from the locality suggests that she was last seen stepping out of her house at around 1:55 am on Friday. Her family members have ruled out possibilities of suicide and alleged foul play in the death.

“There is a pond near our house. We do not find any reason why she went all the way to jump into a pond in the farmhouse to commit suicide. We suspect someone lured her to the spot after finding her alone on the road,” said victim’s father.

According to the family, Rosy was a meritorious student and a good artist. However, she was bit depressed after she scored 69 percentile in the last JEE Main (third phase).

“Following counselling, Rosy started to concentrate on her studies and was preparing for the last round JEE which is to be held this month,” he said.

The family members claimed that they had checked visuals from two CCTV cameras installed near the place. “It is practically impossible for her to enter the farmhouse by scaling the high boundary walls. We want a detailed investigation into the incident,” they added.

The victim’s father said his wife informed him about the disappearance of Rosy from the house at around 3 am. “There was no pressure on her from the family over studies. Rather we have given all freedom to our children in matters of choosing their career,” the victim’s father added.

Kabiraj Sahu, an employee posted at the farmhouse said, “I reached the farmhouse at around 8 am today. Later, I found something floating in the pond and informed the owner. He asked me to inform the police.”

Sahu said there are four entry gates to the farmhouse and the boundary walls are also high. “I had never seen the girl near the farmhouse as the gates remain locked most of the time. Four employees, including three women, work here,” he added.

Meanwhile, police and forensic team have started an investigation into the incident.
