The Vigilance Department on Thursday arrested Sitaram Sahoo, working as the Industry Promotion Officer (IPO) at the office general manager of district industries centre (DIC) Puri, on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known income sources.

Sahoo was arrested after disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 1,08, 78,752 were unearthed following raids at multiple locations by the anti-corruption sleuths on Wednesday.

Vigilance officials said that the (total) assets possessed by Sahoo is 52 percent more than his known sources of income. Sahoo has been booked under Sections 13(2), 13(1) (b)/ 12 of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance Bhubaneswar today.

Earlier, the Vigilance had conducted simultaneous searches at 5 premises in Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts respectively, which were linked to Sahoo.

The officer had come on the Vigilance scanner following allegations of possessing disproportionate assets. The multiple raids were carried out by eight teams of the Vigilance department which were headed by 4 DSP rank officers.

The Vigilance sleuths had found one double storey buildings each at Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh in the name of Sahoo. The sleuths had also found documents pertaining to five plots in Khordha and Nayagarh districts. Sahoo had bank deposits of over Rs 34 lakh, insurance deposit of Rs 4.42 lakh and other immovable properties to the tune of Rs 1.51 crore.
