Denied money to drink alcohol, a tipsy man slit the throat of his wife and killed her in Odisha’s Kandhamal district. The bone-chilling incident was reported in Nuamunda village under Tumudibandh police limits.
The deceased has been identified as Madhubati Behera Dalei, wife of the accused Chandrakant Dalei.
According to sources, Chandrakant is a habitual drunkard. He often returns home drunk and creates nuisances in the family. As usual, he returned home in an inebriated state and demanded money from his money.
The couple broke out in a fight after Madhubati refused to give him any money. Things took an ugly turn after their verbal fight became physical and Chandrakant beat up Madhubati. He later took a knife and slit her throat, leading to her death on the spot.
The matter came to the fore after their minor son, who was away for some work, returned home and found her mother dead in a pool of blood. He informed other villagers who then called the police.
On being informed, police rushed to the village and arrested Chandrakant. The body was seized and has been sent for autopsy.
“I was not at home. I had gone to the bank for some work. I returned home to find my mother with her throat slit and lying dead on the floor, with blood flowing profusely,” revealed the victim’s son.
