Bhubaneswar: Incidents of cyber loots have increased considerably during the lockdown-shutdown period in Odisha in the last one month.
According to a statement issued by the police, the looters took advantage of the pandemic restrictions which prompted people to prefer on-line transaction for shopping and other financial activities.
The police said that fraudsters had duped unsuspecting people to the tune of Rs 1.49 crore during the lockdown period out of which Rs 70,78,714 were looted in the State Capital city alone during the period.
According to the data shared by the police, the Cyber Help Desk had received 529 calls regarding cyber frauds out of which the cyber cell in Bhubaneswar had received maximum 256 calls.

As many as 160 calls were related to UPI fraud while 100 other calls related to frauds regarding credit and debit cards.
Based on the data of Bhubaneswar cyber cell, 17 cases had been registered at different police stations.
Similarly, 56 dubious mobile numbers have been blocked by the police during the period.
Police have refunded/blocked Rs 12,05, 306 during the month of May, the statement added.
