Bhubaneswar: The South-west monsoon is most likely to touch Kerala coast in next two days before entering Odisha.
Prior to that, pre-monsoon signs indicating the onset of the monsoon are seen over the sky of Odisha. It was tweeted by the Regional Meteorological Centre here even though the exact date of the onset of monsoon over the State is yet to be confirmed.
“The south-west monsoon has already entered Sri Lanka. We expect that it would reach Kerala by June 3. The monsoon usually touches Odisha 10-12 days after the onset over Kerala. We will update regarding the progress of monsoon to Odisha five days before its arrival,” Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.
The monsoon rain is expected to be normal between June and September this year. Rainfall of 101 mm is expected during the season. Rainfall activities may decrease in north-east regions even as the monsoon is expected to remain normal in other parts of the country,” he added.
The coastal and interior regions in the State had been experiencing severe humid condition for the last few days even as the day temperature has remained below normal in the regions. As per the IMD prediction, such humid condition is likely to prevail over the State for the next three-four days

IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra may brief media about the onset of monsoon in details today. Mohapatra had earlier said that the monsoon is expected to hit Kerala coast by June 3.
Earlier, the IMD had forecast that the monsoon might hit Kerala coast by June 1. However, a cyclonic circulation along the Karnataka coast halted the progress of the southwest monsoon thereby delaying its arrival by two days, Mohapatra had informed earlier.
The southwesterly winds could strengthen further gradually from June 1, resulting in likely enhancement in rainfall activity over Kerala. Hence, the monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to take place around June 3, the IMD had said.
The normal onset date for monsoon over Kerala is June 1. This marks the commencement of rainy season.
Monsoon is expected to be normal this year. The IMD had announced the Monsoon's arrival in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 21.
