Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Tuesday reported 37 more fatalities due to Covid-19 and 8,735 new cases in the last 24 hours. The cumulative death toll in the State jumped to 2791 while the total positive cases reached 77,3732.

Angul district reported maximum five deaths while Cuttack and Kalahandi registered four fatalities each. As many as three persons succumbed to Covid-19 each in Jharsuguda, Khurdha, Nabarangpur and Sundergarh. 

Similarly, two fatalities have been detetcted each from Kendrapara, Nuapada, Rayagada and Sonepur districts. Districts recorded one casualty each due to the deadly virus are Bolangir, Gajapati, Ganjam and Koraput.

Of the new infections detected today, 4,892 cases have been detected from quarantine centres while 3843 are local contact  cases, the State Information and Public Relations department informed through a tweet.

Similarly, active cases in the State stand at 89,956 following 10, 405 new recoveries that pushed the State’s recovery tally to 680932.
Khordha district has registered maximum 1, 222 fresh infections followed by Cuttack which recorded 673 fresh cases during the period. With 566 new infections, Balasore district has recorded third-highest single-day spike today. 

Jajpur and Dhenkanal came next in the row with 507 and 503 cases respectively. Puri recorded 467 cases while Angul district witnessed a dip in single-day cases with 454 fresh infections. 

As many as 387 people have tested positive for the virus in Kendrapara district in the last 24 hours while 382 cases have been detected in Jagatsinghpur district.

Mayurbhanj saw 342 infections and Nabarangpur registered 264 while Koraput witnessed 255 positives today.

Districts recording below 100 cases are Rayagada (90), Malkangiri (96), Kandhamal (65), Gajapati (80), Deogarh (63) and Bolangir (49).
