Bhubaneswar: Eminent litterateur from Odisha, Jayanta Mahapatra has been admitted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Padma Shri poet who has been suffering from age-related ailments is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, his family said.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were among many eminent personalities who have wished speedy recovery for the ailing nonagenerian writer.

 

Mahapatra, renowned in the literary fraternity and the community of readers alike, is admired for his matchless composition of literary pieces like the Indian Summer and Hunger which are considered as classics in modern Indian English literature.

He has been conferred with numerous top literary awards like the Sahitya Akademi, Jacob Glatstein memorial award. He was felicitated with the Padma Shri in 2009 but he returned the award protesting rising intolerance in the country.
