Bhubaneswar: A day after the allegations of gross mismanagement at Baripada Covid hospital surfaced, top official of State Health Department today said that the matter is being investigated by the district administration and appropriate action will be taken after probe.

DMET CBK Mohanty said, “Allegation of some mismanagement from Baripada Covid hospital has come to our notice. This is a matter of investigation and it is being currently conducted by the district administration which is the competent authority to initiate appropriate action.”

The statement of the top health official came at a time when a delegation of BJP legislature party met the Mayurbhanj Collector in this connection.

A BJP team headed by Mayurbhanj district president Kandara Soren demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those who are responsible for such mismanagement. Party MLAs Prakash Soren, Budhan Murmu and Bhaskar Madhei were among others in the team.

BJP leader, Thakur Ranjit Das said, "The State government has failed to provide COVID care to the poor. This is a gross violation of COVID norms. So the hospital authorities should be booked under the pandemic act."

Earlier, massive mismanagement at the Baripada Covid hospital came to fore after a video clip and some photos showing the state of affairs went viral on social media platforms.

In the video, patients were seen lying on the floor in naked and semi-nude position while no nurses or doctors were there to attend to them.

Bibhudatta Dash, an attendant at the Covid treatment centre, who lost one of his relatives recently, had also alleged mismanagement and serious medical negligence at the covid centre in district headquarters town. The attendant had also came down on the government for making tall claims of spending huge amounts for the treatment and care of Covid patients.

The District Collector, however, had rubbished such allegation saying that all the Covid hospitals are functioning smoothly.
