A BJD leader, contesting the three-tier panchayat polls as a zilla parishad candidate has been accused of firing three rounds of bullets in air to terrorise a youth at Dhana village in Nabarangpur district yesterday.

As per the allegations, Arun Mishra the BJD zilla parishad candidate from Nandahandi zone-2 created ruckus and later fired three rounds of bullets in air in front of the house of one Alok Das soon after polling for the second phase polls ended on February 18.

The complainant Alok said that three to four persons led by Arun had come to his house searching for his father Ashwini Das who had campaigned for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the panchayat polls.

“I was inside my house when a youth came and asked for my father. As he was not present in the house, the youth asked me to call my father over phone. After speaking with him for some minutes, the youth started abusing my father. Later, Arun and other youths came near my house and threatened to kill my father. Arun then pulled out a gun and fired three rounds in the air,” alleged Alok.

According to Alok, he initially thought that Arun had a fake gun but all of them fled after he (Arun) resorted to blank firing.

On getting information, police reached the spot and seized two empty bullet shells from the spot.

However, the BJD leader has refuted the allegations levelled against him.

“All the allegations are baseless. I have good relations with Alok and his family members. However, they are now my political rivals. I have not threatened anyone. It is a conspiracy against me and the allegations are totally baseless,” said Arun.
