The Odisha government has inoculated 46.66 lakh people with the precautionary dose till today which is 14% of the total beneficiaries in the state, said Health and Family Welfare Director, Bijay Panigrahi on Monday.

Raising concerns on slow pace of vaccination in the State, Panigrahi said the government is committed to complete the vaccination drive in the stipulated time period.

Panigrahi urged beneficiaries due for the third dose to come forward and get vaccinated as soon as possible. Speaking to the reporters, he said, “We have inoculated 14% of the beneficiaries, and we will vaccinate the others soon. There are still 24.9 lakh beneficiaries yet to take the second dose of Covid vaccine. I request them to get vaccinated soon.”

“We have already directed all districts to increase the vaccination centres in addition to forming of four mobile teams in each block. We are also working on campaigns to create awareness among people for vaccination,” he said.

Asked about the status of vaccine stock in the State, Panigrahi said, “Currently we have enough vaccine doses. We have received 9 lakh Covishield vaccines from the Centre and will get another consignment of 6 lakh Covishield doses on August 10.”

The Centre on Saturday had written to seven states including Odisha, asking them to ensure adequate testing, and promote Covid-appropriate behaviour.

In a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had said, "Upcoming months are likely to witness mass gatherings in context of various festivities to be held in different parts of the country, leading to large number of individuals undertaking intra- and inter-state journey or congregating at same places."
