Chandigarh: Flaying the UPA government for "showing reluctance" in passing the Lokpal Bill, BJP on Friday accused the Centre of unnecessarily wasting time and escaping from discussions over the proposed legislation.

"Lokpal will have an important role in uprooting corruption from the country. We even want that Prime Minister should also be brought under the purview of Lokpal Bill. It is really sad that UPA is unnecessarily wasting time and is reluctant to bring it," BJP vice-president Shanta Kumar told reporters here.

UPA is escaping from discussions and debates and they don`t want to bring an ineffective bill, he said adding that it was because most of their leaders were corrupt and they had black money stashed abroad.

"We support it and our stand is very clear; UPA should bring this bill to parliament and pass it after a healthy discussion," he added.

However, at the same time Kumar regretted this bill could not be passed during the regime of National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"Corruption is the major problem that we are facing at this moment," he said.

Quoting a report, he said that the black money worth Rs 240 crore goes out of the country in every 24 hours. "Lokpal Bill will be an independent body like CBI and election commission. It would not be a parallel government," he said.

Kumar said BJP has launched protests against corruption at 100 different locations in the country.

They will stage a protest in Amritsar tomorrow and at Ludhiana and Jalandhar on Sunday.
