ULFA calls Assam bandh to protest PM visit
In a statement e-mailed to PTI, Arunodoy Dohotiya, publicity secretary of the Paresh Barua-led faction of the banned outfit said the shutdown has been called in line with the announcement made earlier that ULFA would call a bandh whenever a head of state or central leader visited the state.
"We want to drive home the point that people of Assam will no longer be fooled by false promises made by Congress," the statement said.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address election rally at Dhakukhana in Lakhimpur on April 2.
The ULFA in an e-mail sent earlier had said the bandh had been called as the Prime Minister had allegedly "failed to keep his written promise to discuss all the core issues for political solution of the Assam-India conflict".
All emergency services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh which will begin from 6:00 am.
