No Mizo policeman killed in action in a year

Aizawl: Not a single Mizoram police personnel was killed in action since September one last year till August 31 this year even as Police Commeration Day, a day of condolence for 634 slain policemen across the country, was observed here today. An official statement said that 38 policemen were killed during the period in neighbouring north eastern states with the highest number of policemen killed in Manipur at 14 followed by Assam at nine.

State Director General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachuau said that Mizoram Police personnel were not only working to protect the state, but also could be called for duty in any parts of the country. Pachuau said that proposal to acquire American-made M-16 rifles was being actively pursued.
