Chandigarh: A leopard stuck in a cable- carrying pipe underneath the IAF runway here for the past 11 days was safely taken out on Thursday night. The leopard was rescued in a joint operation by the Air Force and forest department personnel, a defence release said.

The big cat, which was stuck in the 75-feet-long underground pipe at the IAF station`s subsidiary runway since March 12, will now be taken to Chhatbir Zoo near here. Over the past few days, the officials had devised several techniques, including keeping a chicken and a goat near the pipe as bait, flushing water down the pipe and bursting crackers but the leopard had refused to come out. Officials said it was still not known how the leopard entered the IAF area.
