Guwahati: A fire broke out in the Assam Secretariat in Dispur area here, officials said today.

The fire broke out in the Water Resources Department on the third floor of the secretariat on Wednesday night, damaging several files. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained and forensic department personnel are investigating the case.

The blaze was brought under control by the use of fire control devices installed within the secretariat premises.
