Chennai: Amid the row over the Mullaperiyar dam between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, former President APJ Abdul Kalam today suggested that talks between the two Chief Ministers could help solve the situation.

Both the Chief Ministers should meet and discuss the issue to sort it out, Kalam told reporters at the Annual Book Fair here. "If they meet and discuss, everything should be possible," he said.

The two states are locked in a bitter row over the 116-year old dam with Kerala wanting to replace it with a new structure citing safety concerns while Tamil Nadu is against this, saying the new dam would deprive it of its due share of water.
