Pahalgam Terror Attack

A day after 28 civilians, including a Nepali national, were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India announced a major diplomatic downgrade with Pakistan. The Cabinet Committee on Security, led by PM Modi, approved a series of retaliatory steps over Islamabad’s alleged link to the attack.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Pakistan’s defence, naval, and air advisors in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and must leave within a week. India will also pull back its military advisors from Islamabad. Both missions will be downsized from 55 to 30 staff by May 1.

India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and will shut the Attari land crossing immediately, though those already in India can return via Attari until May 1. Pakistan nationals are now barred from using the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme, and existing visas under it have been revoked.

Pak troops resort to unprovoked firing in 8 forward sectors along LoC in J-K

In a major escalation of border tensions, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire for the 11th consecutive night, resorting to unprovoked firing across eight forward sectors along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The firing, which began with small arms in Kupwara and Baramulla, later spread to Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, and even the International Border in Jammu. This comes amid strained India-Pakistan ties following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Despite recent talks between the DGMOs, Pakistan's repeated violations have rendered the 2021 ceasefire agreement effectively defunct.
