Puri: Gajapati Maharaj Dibya Singha Dev, Chairman, Managing Committee, Sri Jagannath temple in an exclusive interview to OTV, raised a few pivotal issues which included — how Government should shun apathy and take special interest in the administration of Jagannath temple and how operational reforms should be initiated for the better governance of the temple.

Pointing out how the proposals of the Temple’s Managing Committee are not being properly carried out, Gajapati said that the undivided Puri district should be designated as special revenue division and the RDC should be headquartered here which is currently under the RDC (central range) who is also in charge of 10 other districts.

He also emphasized that deserving officers should be handpicked for all the three administrative posts in charge of the operation of Sri Jagannath temple and the RDC should give them direction and help in the conduct of daily rituals, rituals during festivals and distribution of mahaprasad. And importantly an immediate survey should be made on servitors’ socio-economic condition and steps should be taken to improve their situation.

However, on the question of if non-Hindus and converted Hindus should be allowed in Sri Jagannath temple — Gajapati said that the issue should be taken up with religious leaders, the Government and should incorporate the views of general public.
