Puri: A foreign tourist was assaulted by unidentified miscreants at Puri, the famous seaside pilgrim town here on Monday, police said.

Omaro Daniel (25) of Kazakhstan along with his wife, parents and other family members was taking a strol in Sri Vihar area, close to Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University on the outskirts of the town when when he was attacked by three miscreants, the officer, Sea beach police station A K Dhar said.

When Daniel tried to protest, they attacked him with shrap-edged weapons causing injury on his hand.

He was discharged after being treated at the district headquarters hospital here.

Daniel was staying in a hotel since January 11 along with his family members.

There had been instances of misbehaviour with several foreign and domestic tourists in the town in recent times, local tourism industry sources said.
