Two wanted criminals nabbed after encounter

Berhampur: Two dreaded criminals were arrested after an encounter with police at Kanheipur near Khallikote in Ganjam district late last night.

The criminals identified as Sauri Naik and Mitu opened fire at police when the latter tried to frisk their vehicle. Police retaliated in which the duo sustained bullet injuries in legs.

Both were admitted to Khallikote hospital and later shifted to MKCG medical college and hospital here.

Two pistols and five rounds of bullets were seized from them.

Sources said the two were involved in an attack on a contractor in Banapur last evening.

Both the criminals were wanted in more than 20 cases pending at various police stations in the city.
