With the Tejas aircraft currently ruling Indian skies, India is now focusing on its future combat on AMCA or Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft. AMCA is the working name for India’s homegrown fifth generation fighter plane. But what’s a fifth generation fighter? With respect to other aircrafts, AMCA will have stealthy airframes and materials that will make it difficult to be detected by RADAR and carry internally smart weapons. It will spot advance sensors and data fusion in advance avionic spaces. It can also break the speed of sound without affecting its built. The special purpose vehicle model is India’s first envisioned public-private partnership program that is controlled by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The cost of development is estimated to be around Rs 15000 crore. The first flight of AMCA will take off five years behind its determined schedule of 2023-24 launch. As per DRDO, the fighter craft should start getting ready by 2028 for induction and its phase 1 engines will fly in about 10 years. As per the experts, India needs a 5th generation aircraft as the history has shown us how significant air power can be, like in 2019 Balakot Airstrike. Also, Russian Su-57, the Chinese J-20 and American F-35 are currently operating as a defence shield for the countries.
