For centuries, dogs have stood by humans as loyal companions - guarding homes, offering comfort, and serving as partners in work and play. But their service extends far beyond the backyard gate. Across the world, specially trained canines assist police and military units by detecting explosives, tracking threats, and saving lives in situations too dangerous for humans alone.

Bravery in Kishtwar: Tyson’s Heroic Charge

In the rugged forested slopes of Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, this legacy of canine courage was on full display when Tyson, a German Shepherd attached to the Indian Army’s elite 2 Para Special Forces, charged ahead of soldiers during a joint counter-terror operation.

His task was to locate militants concealed in the thick terrain - a mission crucial to ensuring the safety of the troops.

As Tyson advanced, militants opened fire. Despite being shot in the leg, the brave dog continued forward, pinpointing the insurgents’ hideout and enabling the soldiers to engage effectively. His actions were credited with helping eliminate three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, including a senior commander who had evaded capture for years.

A Salute to Tyson & All K9 Warriors

After the intense encounter, Tyson was airlifted for medical treatment and is reported to be stable and recovering - a testament to both his resilience and the care provided by Army veterinarians.
