Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar sounded Red Alert for no less than 13 districts of Odisha while predicting heavy rainfall on account of a well-marked low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood that lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Gangetic West-Bengal and north Odisha.

As per the Met Centre bulletin, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westward with height.

Weather forecast and warning for next five days:

Day-1 (Valid from 1330 hrs IST of 26.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2020)

Red Warning: Moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places very likely to occur over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nuapada and Nabarangpur.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest of the districts of Odisha.

Day-2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2020)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada and Keonjhar.

Day-3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2020)
No warnings issued by the Met Centre, However, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Day-4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2020) and Day-5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 31.08.2020) do not carry any warning as of now but light to moderate rain or thundershower can very well occur at a few places in Odisha.

As far as the capital city of Bhubaneswar is concerned, it is likely to witness a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershower. Maximum and Minimum temperature is very likely to be around at 27°C and 24°C respectively.

With a likely wind speed of 45- 55 kmph over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast, fishermen have been advised by the Met Centre to keep away from the sea along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal till 27th August, 2020.
