Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under heat wave with eight places in the State recording temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above today.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s coal town Talcher was the hottest place in the State with a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius while Bolangir recorded 41.2 deg C.

Other places which registered temperature of 40 degrees or above were Angul (40.5), Jharsuguda (40.2), Boudh (40.2), Sonepur (40.2), Malkangiri (40.1) and Titilagarh (40).

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7 deg C and 38.2 deg C respectively.

The weather department said most of the places in the State witnessed slight decrease in the maximum temperature. It further said there will not be any large change in the day temperature during the next three to four days and the temperature will hover above 40 degrees Celsius at a few places in interior Odisha.

The Met department has predicted that light to moderate rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal tomorrow while dry weather will prevail over the remaining districts.

The weather office issued yellow warning over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore where thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur tomorrow.

Similarly, the IMD regional centre said that light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Keonjhar on April 17 while dry weather will prevail over the rest districts.

Moreover, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Ganjam. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Jagatsinghpur on April 17.
