Bhubaneswar/Bolangir: Two members of a family were killed while two others were left critically injured after their house wall collapsed on them following heavy rainfall in Patnagarh area of Bolangir, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena informed on Sunday.

The accident occurred while four of the family had gone to watch ‘Shani Mela’ to a nearby village. However, heavy rain forced them to stay overnight in their old home in that village.

The accident occurred after a dilapidating wall suddenly collapsed on the family members sleeping inside the house. While two of them succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to a hospital, two others are still undergoing treatment, the SRC said.

As per weather data, Malkangiri has recorded 100 mm rainfall, Padmapur in Bargarh district 240 mm of precipitation, the highest in the State in last 24 hours.

Similarly, Boudh, Bargarh and Sambalpur registered a downpour of 57 mm, 95 mm and 85 mm respectively. The average rainfall in the state was recorded as 32.7 mm in last 24 hours.

It is worth mentioning here that, even though the well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is weakening, some districts are likely to experience heavy rain in the next 24 hours.

India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar on Sunday issued ‘Yellow Warning’ for seven Odisha districts- Koraput, Nuapada, Bargarh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Sambalpur for the next 24 hours.
