Malkangiri: A vehicle carrying the bodies of slain Maoists got stuck in floodwater due to heavy downpour in the Malkangiri district today and had to be taken out of water with the help of a tractor. Not only roads, rainwater has also inundated hundreds of acres of crop and damaged houses in different parts of the district.

A dam in Patraput under Mathili block was damaged due to the incessant rain, inundating hundreds of acres of farmland in the district. Houses were damaged in Champajharan, Maliguda and other places in Mathili block. Several trees were also uprooted in Kamalapadar disrupting road communication.

“We had grown the paddy by taking loan, but the rainwater had inundated our crops. How will we survive? The government should extend financial assistance to us,” demanded a resident.

A girl was injured in wall collapse following incessant rain in Chitrakonda area. The house-cum-shop located near Kumarguda Chhak in Doraguda panchayat belonged to Santosh Pangi, whose daughter Kamala suffered injuries in the wall collapse.

“I had taken loan and constructed the shop. How will I repay the loan and maintain my family?” said a visibly distressed Pangi.
