Berhampur: Two youths from Ganjam district have reportedly fallen prey to online job fraudsters amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per reports, both the job aspirants lost Rs 2 lakh to the fraudsters who had promised them jobs at the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

One of the complainants, Gupteswar Pradhan informed that he received a phone call from a person, who identified himself as AAI manager and informed about certain openings.

Later, Pradhan reportedly transferred Rs 1.23 lakh as demanded by the caller who informed that the money was meant for supply of essential articles including laptop, uniform, and other items.

Apart from Pradhan, one Sudhakar Khuntia from the district has also fallen prey to the online job scam.

“I had made payments to the tune of Rs 73,000 in installments. However, when I visited Bhubaneswar, found that it was a fraud,” said Khuntia.

Both the complainants have lodged a complaint before Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra who has transferred the case to the cyber police station.

“We have registered a case and urge people to be careful while doing financial transactions online and do not share vital information like bank accounts and OTP. People are also advised not to open any unverified links,” said Mishra.
