Bhubaneswar: The total number of Covid-19 cases in Odisha mounted to 4338 with the addition of 175 new cases in the last 24 hours, the State Information and Public Relations Department informed on Wednesday.

Of the total cases detected today, 145 were reported from various quarantine centres where returnees from other states are lodged while the remaining 30 cases were local contacts.


Gajapati reported highest 57 coronavirus cases followed by Khurda (25), Puri (18) and Bargarh (11). Kandhamal and Jagatsinghpur accounted for seven cases each, Balasore 6, five cases each in Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj, Nuapada 4, three cases each in Bolangir and Cuttack, one case each in Ganjam, Kendrapada, Jharsuguda.

Similarly, 21 fire services personnel who returned from West Bengal after rescue and restoration work post-cyclone Amphan also tested positive for the virus. So far 195 personnel have tested positive for the virus after their return from the Amphan duty.

With the addition of the new cases, the active Covid-19 cases in the State went up to 1350 while 2974 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

Though Ganjam district reported highest number of coronavirus cases in the State with detection of 699 positive persons so far, the active cases in the district stood at 77 as 616 patients have recovered from the disease. The district also witnessed six deaths due to coronavirus, highest in the State. Cuttack district has highest 165 active cases.
