Bhubaneswar: Two Covid Care Centres at Jamujhari and Jatani have been closed on account of declining cases of coronavirus infections, informed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday.

Briefing the media about the Covid-19 situation in Bhubaneswar, BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said, "We have closed down two Covid Care Centres at Jamujhari and Jatani with a combined capacity of 750 beds as they were lying vacant."

"We are at declining phase as about 250 to 300 new cases are being detected per day in the capital city in the last four-five days. The RMRC in its report has also said that Bhubaneswar is at declining phase," Chaudhary said.

He said the bed load in Bhubaneswar has also reduced very substantially and almost 100 ICU beds were vacant in government facilities as on yesterday.

The BMC commissioner said that this festive season will be a challenge as there is fear of spread of infections during that period and urged people to remain cautious.

"We request public not to visit puja pandals as darshan is prohibited," he said.

"The distribution of Favipiravir tablets to mild symptomatic patients is also going on. So far we have distributed the drug to around 712 patients," he said.
