The southwest monsoon has finally reached Kerala, informed the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
In a tweet, the Regional Centre said that the monsoon arrived in Kerala three days ahead of its normal onset date i.e June 1.
Earlier, the IMD had predicted that this year the southwest monsoon would hit the Kerala coast by May 27. The forecast was made with an error margin of +/-4 days. But after that, there was a lot of flip flop by the IMD over its actual date.
"Southwest Monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of south Tamil Nadu, some parts of Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal today," said IMD.
As per IMD,conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some parts of central Arabian Sea, reaming parts of Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, and some more parts of south and Central Bay of Bengal, some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and northeastern states during the next 3-4 days.
