The Regional Meteorological Centre on Wednesday issued a weather alert for Odisha, predicting intense rainfall activity across several parts of the state over the next two days. Some regions are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, prompting the authorities to issue safety warnings.
Odisha Weather Update: Orange Alert Issued
According to the forecast, an Orange Alert has been issued for seven districts on Tuesday — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur. The alert indicates the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in these areas, which may lead to waterlogging, disruption of transport, and potential flooding in low-lying regions.

In addition, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Boudh districts. These areas may experience heavy rain, and residents have been advised to remain cautious.
The state capital, Bhubaneswar, has been witnessing consistent rainfall since Monday evening, affecting normal life and traffic movement. Meanwhile, the sea remains rough to very rough, and fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until further notice.
The Met Office has also urged the public and local administrations to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and take necessary precautions to prevent rain-related hazards.
