Monsoon likely to advance into more parts of Odisha; IMD predicts thunderstorm, heavy rainfall

Conditions are favourable for further advancement of Southwest monsoon over some more parts of Odisha , Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh during the next 2 days and over some parts of Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar during the subsequent 3 days, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha till June 19, 2025.

A yellow alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall has also been issued by the IMD for some pockets of the state.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj. 

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur.
