A man quinches his thirst as severe heatwave continue to batter Odisha
In a startling revelation, four out of the five hottest places in India are from Odisha, with Boudh topping the list. The major towns of Odisha recorded the highest degrees, all above 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, with Maharashtra taking the fourth spot.
As per reports, Boudh recorded the highest temperature with boiling temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda (42 degree), Angul (41.1 degree) and Chandrapur (41.6 degree).
“A red warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Sonepur, and Boudh, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly high. Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal by about 5-7 degree Celsius over the districts of interior Odisha,” informed Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD’s Bhubaneswar center.
With temperatures soaring across the state, the Odisha government is actively considering a shift to morning school timings to protect students from extreme heat wave conditions that have been prevailing for the past couple of days.
The School and Mass Education Minister on Sunday assured that the state government is well aware of the increasing temperatures and is closely monitoring the situation.
“The government is fully aware of the rising heat conditions. A discussion will be held with the Revenue and Disaster Management Department regarding the commencement of morning school sessions. Based on these deliberations, a final decision will be made on rescheduling school timings,” the Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the IMD has anticipated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms sweeping through various districts, potentially lowering temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius due to Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester).
The expected storm activity is anticipated to bring much-needed rain and thunderstorms to several districts, offering a potential decrease in the current oppressive heat from March 20 to 26.
