The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Odisha from March 19, offering potential relief from the ongoing heat wave. A red warning is issued for Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Sambalpur.

At a time when several parts of Odisha are experiencing heat wave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall activities in the State.

According to a bulletin issued by the regional weather office, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at several places in the State starting March 19.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of between March 19 and 20, the weather office predicted.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhargarh, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha between March 20 and 21. 

Heat wave continues to sweep Odisha

Odisha is reeling under intense heat wave as temperatures soar across the state. Even before mid-March, the mercury has crossed 42°C. On Saturday, Boudh recorded a highest 42.5 deg C followed by Sambalpur (42.2), Jharsuguda (41.8), Angul (41.7), Bolangir (41.5), Sonepur (41.2), Titalagarh (41), Sundargarh (40.8), Dhenkanal (40.6), Rourkela (40.5), Hirakud (40.2), Baripada (40.2) and Bhawanipatna (40.2).

IMD Issues Red Warning

The IMD has issued a heat wave warning for the next three days, with conditions expected to worsen further. For March 16, a red warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Sambalpur, indicating severe heat wave conditions. Additionally, four districts are under orange warning, while 16 districts are on yellow warning. The extreme heat is expected to persist until at least March 17, offering no immediate relief for residents.
