Linking Aadhaar with PAN card has been made mandatory by the government of India. The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023, and those who fail to do so will face a penalty of Rs 1000.
However, there are certain situations where linking PAN with Aadhaar is not mandatory.
Here's the exemptions provided by the government for linking PAN with Aadhaar:
1. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs):
As per the government notification number 37/2017, NRIs are not mandated to link their PAN card with Aadhaar. If you are an NRI, you do not have to worry about linking your PAN card with Aadhaar.

2. Individuals above 80 years of age:
The government has exempted individuals above 80 years of age from linking their PAN card with Aadhaar. This exemption has been provided to make the process easier for senior citizens who may find it challenging to complete the linking process.
3. Residents of specific state:
If you are a resident of Assam, Meghalaya or Jammu and Kashmir, you do not have to link your PAN card with Aadhaar. The government has provided this exemption due to the unique situation in these states.
4. Non-Individual entities:
Apart from individuals, the government has clarified that non-individual entities like companies, firms, trusts, etc are not required to link their PAN card with Aadhaar. Aadhaar and PAN are documents meant for individuals and not for non-individual entities.
