The Indian government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar Card with PAN card to avail certain services, including filing the income tax return. The last date to link Aadhaar with PAN card was March 31, 2022, but it was further extended to March 31, 2023, with a minimal penalty fee.

According to government regulations, citizens who did not link their Aadhaar with PAN card between April 1, 2022, and June 30, 2022, were fined Rs 500.

However, those who missed the deadline can still link their Aadhaar with PAN card between July 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, but they will be charged a penalty fee of Rs 1,000.

It is important to follow these guidelines to avoid any unnecessary fines or penalties.

It is crucial to quickly confirm the Aadhaar-PAN linkage before March 31, 2023. Failure to do so may render your PAN Card inoperable, restricting you from filing your income tax return.

You can link your Aadhaar with PAN by following the step-by-step process provided on the official UIDAI website or the NSDL e-Governance website.

By visiting the Income Tax Department's portal for e-filing, you can also determine whether your Aadhaar and PAN cards have been linked. To do so, you need to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and PAN card number and complete the security verification process.

SMS facility offered by the Income Tax Department allows you to check the status of your Aadhaar link and PAN link.

To check the status of PAN-Aadhaar linking through SMS, compose a new SMS and type UIDPAN followed by a space, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number after the space, enter your 10-digit Permanent Account Number (PAN) after another space, and send the SMS to either 567678 or 56161.

You will receive a response from the service informing you if your PAN is linked with your Aadhaar or not.

It is highly recommended to confirm your Aadhaar-PAN linkage before the deadline to avoid penalties and ensure that you can file your income tax return without any hindrance.
