As expected, it was chock-a-block in the pilgrim town of Puri. Reason...? Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega roadshow on Bada Danda (The Grand Road in front of Puri Srimandir).

People from different parts of the city and state along with lakhs of party workers congregated on the Bada Danda to get a glimpse of PM Modi who is eyeing a third time as Prime Minister in the 2024 elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow is part of the massive strategy set by the BJP to come to power in Odisha for the first time by dethroning the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government that has been ruling for the past 25 years here. The roadshow of the Prime Minister assumed significance in the backdrop of the war of words between the BJP and the BJD on several issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi canvassed for the party’s Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra and MLA candidate Jayant Sarangi during his mega roadshow here in the Pilgrim town which began from Marchikot chhak.

Odisha Elections 2024: BJP Challenges BJD

The BJP is going on guns blazing at the ruling BJD by raking up several issues and 'lack of development' in the past 25 years. As Odisha’s political dynamics are totally different than other parts of the country, the saffron party has come up with a clear strategy to massive inroads by raising several issues concerning the people including Odia pride and alleged misgovernance and lack of development issues.

It can be clearly observed that the BJP is heavily relying on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he has been instrumental in winning the hearts of the people of Odisha by taking up several steps like showcasing the Konark Wheel during the G20 Summit to the world leaders.

'Winds of Change in Odisha'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega roadshow has elicited positive response among the party workers as well as locals in Puri.

“The people of Odisha want change as it is now 24 years that CM Naveen Patnaik has been in power. The way BJD leaders are missing and only VK Pandian is doing campaigning is hurting the Odia sentiments. Hence, this time we want a change for the development of the state and we have faith in Modi Ki Guarantee,” said a voter.

'Only Free Rice is not Enough, We Want Better Health & Education'

There are a lot of things that are of concern to the people in Odisha. Only free rice is not enough as people want jobs, better health facilities and other basic facilities including education, said a voter.

“There are several states that voted for a change. In Odisha, the people should also vote after analysing every aspect concerning their daily lives as well as for the development of the nation,” said another voter adding that Odisha also needs industries to create jobs.
