Chinmaye Priyadarshini Sahoo, a former student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), had consumed alcohol before her death, informed Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar on Tuesday citing Viscera report.

Speaking to OTV over the phone, the Sambalpur SP said, “Viscera test report finds the presence of ethyl alcohol. It also corroborates the fact that Chinmaye consumed alcohol before her death. We have also seized CCTV footage in which two persons were spotted consuming liquor at a hotel."

"Earlier, the diatom report of the deceased had mentioned that the death was caused by drowning. It will take some more time to reach the conclusion. Further investigation into the matter is on to ascertain whether it was a suicide or someone abetted the suicide," the top cop said.

Notably, both the diatom and post-mortem reports of Chinmaye also highlighted drowning as the cause of death.

It may be recalled that Chinmaye, a student of the Information Technology department of VSSUT, Burla in Sambalpur had attended the University’s convocation program on February 28.

Later, she had gone to the Power Channel Bridge in Burla with her friend and reportedly went missing after falling into the channel.
Her body was fished out on March 1. The family members of Chinmaye alleged that she had been murdered as there were some injury marks around her neck.
