Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. While highlighting the contributions of the Indian overseas community, the PM also emphasized the country and its heritage, pointing out the rich culture and heritage present in Odisha, the state hosting the mega-event for the first time.
In his address, the Prime Minister invoked key places of the state that stand out as symbols of spirituality, culture, peace, and Indian legacy. The Puri Jagannath Temple, one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites, is located in the coastal town of Puri, Odisha.
This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, is renowned for its annual Rath Yatra, which attracts millions of devotees from around the world.
Visitors can admire the 12th-century temple's majestic architecture, explore its vibrant complex, experience the spiritual ambiance, and relish local delights such as the famous khaja.
The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, approximately 60 kilometers away, and the nearest railway station is Puri Railway Station, about 2 kilometers away.

The Dhauli Shanti Stupa is located on Dhauli Hill, overlooking the Daya River, about 6 kilometers south of Bhubaneswar.
PM Modi highlighted the white peace pagoda and its immense significance for peace as it marks the site where Emperor Ashoka adopted the path to peace after witnessing the bloodshed of the Kalinga War.
Visitors can explore the serene surroundings, view the Ashokan edicts, and enjoy panoramic views of the city from the hilltop.

The Khandagiri-Udayagiri Caves are located in the south of Bhubaneswar on two adjacent hills known as Khandagiri and Udayagiri. Currently guarded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), visitors can purchase tickets for the complex from ASI’s website or on-site counter.
These rock-cut caves, dating back to the 1st century BCE, were primarily used as residential blocks for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela.
Visitors can explore the intricately carved caves, including notable ones like the Hathi Gumpha and Ranigumpha, and learn about the rich history and artistry of the period.
Cabs, buses, and autos are the most suitable options to reach this site, which is just a stone’s throw away from the state capital’s city centre.

The Konark Sun Temple is located in the town of Konark, Odisha, about 35 kilometers northeast of Puri.
This magnificent temple, built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I, is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya, and is renowned for its intricate stone carvings and unique chariot design.
Visitors can marvel at the temple's architectural brilliance, explore the detailed carvings of the twelve pairs of wheels and seven horses, and learn about its historical significance.
The nearest railway station is Puri Railway Station. Visitors can reach the site directly by opting for a bus or cab from Bhubaneswar. However, a road trip along the scenic Marine Drive stretching along Konark to Puri is highly recommended.

The Cuttack Bali Yatra is celebrated on the banks of the Mahanadi River in Cuttack City, marking the ancient maritime trade practices of the state.
This vibrant festival, held on Kartik Purnima, commemorates the voyages of Odisha's mariners to distant lands like Bali, Java, and Sri Lanka.
While the festival already concluded in November, tourists can explore the vibrant streets and world-renowned silver filigree that earned the city its sobriquet of ‘Silver City’. The Barabati Fort, Barabati Cricket Stadium Complex, Silver City Boat Club, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum, and the Odisha Maritime Museum are notable tourist sites.
