Road blockade in Cuttack
Family members of an under-trial prisoner staged a road blockade at Khuntuni area in Cuttack district on Wednesday alleging foul-play following the unexpected death of Mohammed Tayab, an inmate awaiting trial at Adarsh Jail.
As per reports, trouble began last night when Tayab, who had been held in custody for an ongoing legal matter, complained of feeling unwell. Subsequently, prison authorities rushed him to Athagarh Hospital. However, upon arrival, doctors declared him dead.
Details of his cause of death remain undisclosed, fuelling suspicion among his kin.
In response, Tayab’s family from Pankala village, along with their supporters, staged a road blockade along Khuntuni-Narsinghpur route alleging that he has been murdered. They have also demanded a thorough investigation into the conditions surrounding his untimely death.

Earlier in April last year, an under-trial prisoner breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Sundargarh. Family members alleged torture inside the jail.
The Excise Department had arrested Debabrata Singh on charges of selling liquor and sent him to the Special Jail at Bonaigarh. As he fell ill, he was rushed to Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital. Later, he was shifted to the RGH. While undergoing treatment, he died. Doctors claimed brain hemorrhage caused by high blood pressure to be the reason behind the death.
