Two arrested for kidnapping labourers and demanding ransom in Cuttack

The Cuttack Manglabag police on Wednesday arrested two people on charges of kidnapping and demanding ransom. The arrests were made based on reports that the two youths were involved in holding two labourers hostage and threatening to murder them.

The arrested duo has been identified as Binod Samal from Jobra and Debun Samal from Ghasia Sahi in the Manglabag area. They were taken into custody following a complaint filed at the Manglabag police station in Cuttack.

As per sources, the labourers hailing from Jharkhand work for a contractor involved in the expansion of the SCB medical facility in Cuttack.

The two labourers reportedly had a verbal altercation with some intoxicated youths on January 5, 2025 in the Hadia Patha area. Following the verbal spat, some miscreants abducted the two labourers and reportedly took them to an abandoned house in the Jobra area. 

The assailants subsequently demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh from the families of the victims. They also threatened the families with the murder of the labourers if the ransom was not paid, according to reports.

The police acted swiftly on the complaint, leading to the arrests of the suspects. Following their arrest, they have been forwarded to court for further proceedings.
