Raja Chakra in Balasore Court
Raja Chakra, a significant figure within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has been remanded in judicial custody until March 19 by the Balasore Court. This development arises amidst allegations of corruption related to the operations of loading at the Gandhamardan mine.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, which produced Chakra before the court, opted not to seek his remand for interrogation. Interestingly, Chakra's legal team did not apply for his bail. His lawyer mentioned plans to apply for legal representation during future questioning by the EOW.
Chakra's arrest stems from a case involving alleged fraudulent practices in the ore-loading process from the Gandhamardan mine. The situation has provoked significant public interest, given the high-profile nature of the case and Chakra's political prominence.
The EOW is probing whether Raja Chakra was backed by prominent figures during his misconduct. Allegations are flouting that he was hand-in-glove with a high-ranking police officer and even the district collector, suggesting they might have provided cover to him.
Attention has turned towards the former SP and the then District Collector. These two officials might soon come under the EOW’s scanner to determine any potential complicity in Chakra’s fraudulent activities. Further allegations have also been raised highlighting BJD leader Bobby Das’ name.
